Getting started as a Volunteer

In a democratic system, the power ultimately sits with the people. By protesting and showing mass pressure, we achieve many things. Getting involved as a volunteer is a great way to get started.

Kent County Indivisible is a locally-based, volunteer-run chapter of Indivisible.org, a national effort to organize resistance against the lawless Trump regime.

Why Bother?

In a democratic system, the power ultimately sits with the people. By protesting and showing mass pressure, we achieve many things:

  • Stiffens the spine of those who need to resist—legislators, press, universities, lawyers, businesses, judges
  • Demonstrates the size of the resistance
  • Shows us that we are not alone—helps our morale
  • Courage is contagious
  • Warning Trump's accomplices of inevitable accountability
  • Recruit others to the movement

What tools do we have?

  • Large protests for mass impact
  • Smaller, consistent protests to keep the issues front and center
  • Boycotts & blackouts can be powerful but need organization
  • Influencing legislators and authorities at all levels - there are many methods
  • Public and direct pressure campaigns on public officials
  • Persuasion of others in the public
  • Voting

Connect In Person

There are several types of meetings you can attend:

Monthly KCI meetings in-person: where you will hear what is going on and what is planned. It is an opportunity to meet and hang out with like-minded people. We try to make it fun.

Weekly KCI virtual meetings: this is a working and planning meeting focused on getting things done. Any member is invited to observe and, when the business is complete, ask questions or make suggestions.
